Obesity may be triggered by something as simple as a selenium deficiency or as complex as a lifestyle. It is often aggravated by misguided attempts to treat the symptoms rather than the root cause. The following are typical symptoms:
• Insufficient blood flow. Stem cells turn into fat cells when there is insufficient blood flow to support other types.
• Insufficient 5’-monodeiodinase. This prevents the activation of the thyroid T4 hormone causing muscle wasting and reduced lipid metabolism.
• Excessive cytokines like interferon-gamma. This activates indolamine 2,3-dioxygenase which degrades tryptophan reducing serotonin levels. This activates the body’s usual method of countering low serotonin levels by increasing the consumption of carbohydrates.
• These three effects work synergistically leading to cirrhosis of the liver, generalized inflammation, metabolic syndrome, hormone imbalances, and rapid aging.
These symptoms might lead one to suspect that exercise, administration of T3 and tryptophan, reduced consumption of carbohydrates might be effective when this generally makes the situation much worse. It is generally too complex to try to sort out what is wrong with a person’s diet. Meal replacement is easier and has been more successful in practice.
